Here's What You'll Be Doing

Ratepay is looking for a Principal Cloud Platform Engineer to join our team. As a Principal Cloud Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our cloud infrastructure. You will work closely with the development team to ensure a seamless and reliable deployment pipeline. You will also collaborate with other teams to identify and implement best practices for cloud infrastructure. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Design, implement and maintain Ratepay's cloud infrastructure in AWS at scale. 
  • Own the org wide cloud and platform strategy and vision and execute it. 

  • Manage and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform 
  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines 
  • Enable development teams to own their deployed applications by providing them with the tools they need 
  • Create and maintain documentation on system architecture, processes, and procedures 
  • Observability: Monitor and troubleshoot cloud infrastructure issues 
  • Guide and educate the engineering organisation about operations and reliability 

  • Develop and implement security best practices for cloud infrastructure 

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest cloud technologies and trends 
  • Undertake measured, methodical troubleshooting of complicated systems 



Your profile

You have knowledge of scalable production architectures (config management, monitoring, infrastructure-as-a-code, load balancing, CDNs, distributed systems) 

  • You have experience with Cloud Infrastructure (AWS) and most of the following technologies: Docker, Terraform, Prometheus, Jaeger, Kafka, Vault 

  • Software and System Engineers with a passion for system reliability and observability, you will build reliability as a feature into our core infrastructure and applications. 

  • Experience using Data to diagnose and troubleshoot complex distributed systems. 

  • Experience as a software developer [Python or Go]. 

  • You work anywhere in the stack, from right beside the OS and up. 

  • Solid Linux background. 

  • Familiarity with operations: metrics/statistics, incident management, post mortems etc. 

  • You LOVE to automate things and passionate about mentoring and sharing knowledge 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field 
  • At least 8+ years of experience in AWS cloud infrastructure 
  • Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code tools 
  • Proficient in build CI/CD pipelines 
  • Experience in monitoring and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure 
  • Familiarity with security best practices for cloud infrastructure 

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
